![]() We'll be sharing as many specifics as possible about how much we spend to help other travelers better understand the costs associated with a trip like ours. Remember, we're a married couple in our early 30s so we're staying in inexpensive places but not the lowest of the low. It'll be the same with the food. We won't be going to the supermarket for bread and butter everyday but we also won't be going out to many upscale restaurants. Right now, we've budgeted approximately $70 per day for the two of us while we're traveling. This should cover meals, lodging, normal transportation (not flights), admission to sights, and any other costs associated with normal traveling. In certain countries this number will go up (Argentina, Chile). In other countries, we should be able to keep under budget (Bolivia, Colombia, Peru). During the time in which we'll be staying in one place and volunteering, we've budgeted approximately about $30 per day for the both of us. Again, this should cover meals, lodging, and any other expense associated with living in one place for an extended period of time. We've budgeted for some of our "special trips." The Galapagos Islands, an Antarctica cruise, skiing, and an Amazon jungle trip are all trips that we'd like to take (see the "special trips" link). We've also budgeted for other costs outside of those above. You can find a list of those below:
As always, please feel free to ask us about any of the above. We'd like to be as open as possible about the finances behind a trip like this so others realize that it's not as unrealistic as many think. ![]() |
